On November 29, the first act of defense of a doctoral thesis took place at the University Training Center of the National Police, whose headquarters are located at the National Police School (Ávila). This event is an academic germ that will be followed by many other activities of the University Center of the National Police, framed in the highest levels of the Spanish Framework of Qualifications for Higher Education and the European Space of Higher Education.

The now doctor, who is part of the faculty of the National Police School, made the presentation and defense of the thesis The capacities of the European Border and Coast Guard Agency in the border and migratory context of Europe, which was qualified with outstanding option to mention Cum Laude.

The thesis was rated with outstanding

The National Police School was the ideal setting for the celebration of the event, due to the double circumstance of the recent formalization of the agreement to assign the University Center to the University of Salamanca and, in addition, because the now doctor is part of the school’s faculty.

At that university, the former doctoral student, chief inspector of the National Police Iván Velasco Miranda, had carried out his research work, specifically in the “Doctoral Program in Administration, Finance and Justice in the Social State”, framed in the Faculty of Law of the Salamanca University.

The presentation and defense of the thesis was carried out before a qualifying court composed of three members of great prestige and refuted academic and research trajectory, presided over by Dr. D. Juan Ramón Fernández Torres, from the Complutense University of Madrid, and who was accompanied, as Secretary of the court, by Dr. Ms. Helena Villarejo Galande, from the University of Valladolid, and as Vocal Dr. Mrs. Zulima Sánchez Sánchez, from the University of Salamanca.

The thesis, which was rated as outstanding with an option to mention Cum Laude, is entitled "The capacities of the European Border and Coast Guard Agency in the border and migratory context of Europe", and was carried out under the direction of Dr. D. Ricardo Rivero Ortega, Rector Magnifico of the University of Salamanca, and Dr. Mrs. María Sonsoles Sánchez-Reyes Peñamaría, member of the Governing Council of the aforementioned university.

The object of the research work is directly related to an issue of great current and social impact, in which the aforementioned Agency – better known by the name Frontex – plays a fundamental role and of which, among other European police, the Spanish National Police are part.
